Many young people think you can tell whether or not someone has an STD just by looking, but this is false. By age 25, 50% of individuals who are sexually active will have an STD.

There are over 25 different Sexually Transmitted Diseases:

  • Some are curable
  • Some are not
  • Some are deadly

If you are sexually active, it is recommended that you be tested every six months.

The greater the number of sex partners, the greater the risk of infection.

We provide free Chlamydia and Gonorrhea STD testing and provide you with important information about the types and risks of STDs.

Chlamydia – often called the “silent disease” because it usually has no symptoms – is the most frequently reported bacterial sexually transmitted disease in the U.S. Any sexually active person can be infected with Chlamydia. Because the cervix of teenage girls and young women is not fully matured, they are at particularly high risk for infection.

More than 700,000 people annually in the U.S. are infected with gonorrhea. Many do not have any symptoms. Those who have symptoms often experience a burning sensation when urinating. In women, these symptoms are often mistaken for a bladder or urinary tract infection. Although gonorrhea is curable, if left untreated it can cause serious and permanent health problems in both men and women.

Why get an STD test before an abortion?

Women who undergo an abortion procedure with an untreated STI/STD have a higher risk of spreading the infection into the uterus causing further complications.

Hope Women’s Center does not perform or refer for abortions.
